Francis R. Facchini, M.D., FSIR, assumed the role of President of Varian’s Interventional Solutions business in May 2020 after serving several months as interim president. Dr. Facchini has global responsibility for overseeing all aspects of this area, including ongoing development of Varian’s innovative IS treatment offerings, clinical strategy, and helping advance the field of interventional oncology as an important pillar of patient care.
Dr. Facchini previously was Chief Medical Officer and head of Medical Affairs for BTG PLC and served as global Director of Medical and Clinical Affairs for Angiodynamics, Inc.; Chief Medical Officer of Navilyst Medical, Inc.; and as the consultant Medical Director of Boston Scientific Oncology. In addition to his work in industry, Dr. Facchini is a board-certified interventional radiologist and was the co-founder of an independent clinical practice in Chicago as well as a Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) Foundation Board Member. He has expertise in minimally invasive, image-guided treatment of cancer and a special interest in the research and development of novel cancer therapies.
Dr. Facchini earned his Doctor of Medicine from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine, his residency and fellowship in Interventional Radiology at Northwestern University, and earned a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from DePauw University, where he was in the Reserve Officer Training Corps.
